Operating principle of absorption tower using buffer material
The exhaust gas flow enters the exhaust gas treatment tower from the bottom up. Absorbent solution of polluted gases is distributed through the rain frame from top to bottom. The solution stream is divided into small molecules evenly distributed through the buffer layer.
The absorption reaction occurs on the wet surface of the cushion material. The thickness of the cushioning material layer has been calculated with a long enough exposure time. Let the chemical solution completely react with polluted gases in the exhaust stream.
After the reaction time, theclean air flow will go back up through another layer of air filter to the outside. The pollutants are absorbed along with the solution that pours downward according to liquid gravity and is collected into the treatment tank.
Treatment efficiency depends on the air flow velocity in the buffer material layer and the total surface area in contact with the buffer material layer.

Types of cushioning materials
Cushion materials on the market come in sizes from 3mm to about 75mm, porosity (about 65-95%). In addition, the high porosity of the buffer materials will reduce the resistance to the absorption process.
There are three types of cushioning materials:
- Ceramics: high humidity, corrosion resistance at high temperatures, poor durability.

- Plastic: good durability, but poor wettability at low liquid levels, cheap.
Types of cushioning materials
Raschig ceramic rings and saddle rings are used infrequently. Because they are old cushion materials, the cost is relatively low and the treatment efficiency is not high.
Pall rings are made of plastic or metal and have a clearance of 90% to 96%. This cushioning material was much more effective and is still used today.
